Learning Objectives

Through a strategic mix of theory and practical training, you will develop the expertise to manage the majority of lesions encountered in primary care and gain the confidence to perform procedures in cosmetically sensitive areas.
  • Surgical Skills: Transition from elliptical excisions to full-thickness skin grafts, and a wide array of flaps (V-Y, A-T, Rotation, Keystone, Antia-Buch, and more). 
  • Clinical Excellence: The course will enable you to practice safely, recognise your limits and know when to refer.
  • Practice Management: Gain practical insights into setting up a dedicated skin cancer clinic, managing anaesthetics and bleeding, and providing comprehensive pre- and post-operative care.
  • Clinical Mentorship: We recognise that transitioning from simulated training to real patients is a significant step; we will assist you to find mentorship to facilitate this transition safely and effectively.

Skin Cancer Symposiums -  Provide high quality dermatoscopy and surgical training. Upon course completion delegates must practice within their registered scope of practice under the guidelines of their governing body.

Course Components

  • Certificate of Advanced Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery - Part 1 (Theory, Online) (80 Hours)
  • Certificate of Advanced Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery - Part 2 (Practical)(35 Hours).
  • Provide 20 case studies (50 Hours).
  • Reviewing and reflecting (10 hours).
  • Demonstrate use of and an understanding of the SCARD database (or similar auditing system). Provide examples of data reviews and provide reflections on these reviews (5 hours). 
  • Confirm collegial support in the form of at least one mentor with expert level competence in skin cancer surgery (15 hours). Mentors are available via the Skin Cancer Symposiums database.
  • Video recorded demonstrations of 2 complex procedures (15 hours).

There is no need to enroll yourself in the individual courses as they are included in the Professional Certificate package.
